Hajime Zushi in Beppu

So delicious and such lovely owners!!!

Super friendly staff and even the level of English was good. The food was nice and fresh (which seems to be rare in Beppu). We were even invited to a Sake. Fully recommended. But make a booking we'll in advance if you don't want to sit at the bar (which is cool though because you can see the chef do it's magic).

Great dinner, the Chef and his wife were the best hosts and commented some of the dishes on their translator even. Amazing sushis, and the place is off the beaten tracks and feels a lot more authentic than the rest of places around. Loved it!

Incredibly tasty sushi and personable chef, who was happy to provide his recommendation (i think it was katsuo nigiri?), who was patient with our limited Japanese and brought out a fish translation guide. Saw more tourists than locals when we were there.

Beppu left me with a strange feeling. The city was practically deserted, but the kept the business open and I’m great full for it. The head chef and his son-in-law tag team was so lovely. Great sushi, especially the unagi.

Cozy place, friendly chef, delicious sushi.Think I ordered the premium nigiri sushi. Recommend the kanpachi, saba, unagi, maguro, uni, ikura. I am always a unagi person, unagi here is exceptionally good, highly recommended. Don't recommend the sea bass and chawamushi, but again, sashimi always depends on the catch that day.

I think it is the best sushi restaurant in Beppu. It tastes sweet in your mouth. Hajime-san is a very nice and talented chef. Hajime-san, I wish you good health. It is worth a visit. Hospitality is also appreciated.

Small place but great atmosphere. The head chef and staff are really friendly and fun to talk with. The sushi was easily the best sushi I had ever had. As a true sushi-loving Japanese citizen, you can trust these words! Would definitely come back here even if it takes a flight or two.

You can easily find it by going to Google Maps. I went late and there were a lot of locals. The higher the price, the higher the quality of sushi. I ordered sashimi for basic sushi, but I think it would be very satisfactory to order anything. The thaw melts in your mouth. There is also a Korean menu for reference, so it is not difficult to order. The staff was very friendly and the boss gives us a hand out after meals. I just wanted to take a picture together, but I accepted it readily. It is a place that has been a pleasant memory.

Lovely approachable but authentic tiny 8 seat sushi ya. Quick service, fresh fish, selection of sake. They were very happy to indulge my limited attempts at Japanese.Not cheap, but definitely an experience.

A really cozy diner with fresh raw fish and yummy grill fish. Shop owner is super nice and friendly to travelers. Which at first I was worried that being a neighborhood diner they would not welcome foreigners. Indeed this was the 3rd restaurant that I went as the 1st was closed due to running out of stock and 2nd was not satisfactory in quality and I am so glad I wound up in this tiny but high quality restaurant.

A sit down restaurant with tatami mat floors and low tables as well as a tiny bar to sit at. Very tasty sushi and sashimi. The staff were very friendly.

Sushi is delicious, the staffs are very enthusiastic, creating a comfortable and cozy atmosphere.

Best sushi and service I've had to date. The fish to rice ratio is top notch. I had the special premium 7 piece nigiri set and the seafood mixed in ponzu - definitely recommended. Sushi chefs didn't speak fluent English, but definitely made an effort to communicate. They do have an English menu anyway so you'll be fine if you don't speak japanese. I felt very at home here and the staff were extremely hospitable.

Small and very cozy place. The staff are very kind (they even speak a little bit of spanish ^^) and the food is GREAT. We even got some extras for free. Totally recommended!

Amazing sushi in a great atmosphere

Very relaxing ambience. Sushi also very fresh and good. The one thing that left deep impression is their miso soup which is freshly cooked, not the sachet prepared.

The hotel said it's the best sushi in beppu or Kyushu... But I don't think so. Pricey for sure but quality is like typical expensive sushi restaurant. The thing that really puts me off is that it's a small place n they allow ppl to smoke inside. Sushi+second hand smokes, not my favorite combinations.

This is not just the best sushi I've eaten. It is the best food I had in my life so far! Deluxe portion costs 3000 but it's worth way more! Sale was great as well. It's a family run business with great desire to make you happy. Chef is extremely positive and very welcoming. My whole Japanese trip would be worth just for this restaurant! Wonderful

The best sushi ever and the greatest chef in all Beppu. We had such a great time, we ate and drank like never. It was like discovering sushi and sake for the first time. The chef and his crew create a nice atmosphere making you feel home from the door. Thanks for this unforgettable experience.

Very good place for Sushi and sashimi and many other japanese seafood spacialities; very small and cosy at the sushi bar , warm atmosphere , they speak reasobnably good english ; great sake selection ; a bit on the expensive side , so be carefull when ordering , but quality has a price ...

Sushi is delicious, and grilled fish is delicious. I was the first guest on the evening of the same day, but the kitchen was too busy, so I did not get any food after 20 minutes. I recommend ordering the dishes all at once.

Really fresh fish and very Simple menu to order from (at least the English menu). Last minute decision and loved it! Real authentic, prepared by a seasoned chef !

I had such a cool experience at this place. I order the premium sushi nigiri plate but I was afraid I would be hungry in the end but the pieces were big, very tasty, and in the end the chef gave me a fish soup that was very good. The place is tiny but cozy and I ended up meeting some Japanese people there. Amazing night!

Friendly service, very fresh fish, and a great local community. There's an English menu available. Counter seating is covered, but basically outdoors, so you won't have air conditioning. At least you'll be sweating together with everyone else if it's hot outside. Good times!

Because Beppu is on the beach side, I thought that I should eat sushi and it was the place that I went looking for. I did not have any guests when I was around 6:30 pm, but when I was out, I had almost no counter seats.I remember it because it was delicious and the Korean menu was different.I think that it is good to eat because the price range is a little, but it is come down to money.

Very warm welcome, fantastic atmosphere and great nigari and maki. The service was wonderful, friendly and chef and staff even waved us goodbye on the street. We definitely will come back.
